The Rocketek USB 2.0 Aluminum hub with card reader is designed especially for laptops, tablets, and ultrabooks and expands one USB 2.0 port into three easily. It also features SD and TF card slots, which makes reading different types of memory cards very convenient.

ExpressCard's speed and flexibility allow for exciting applications such as full throughput FireWire 800 host adapters and UDMA 4/PIO Mode 6 supporting CompactFlash adapters. In time ExpressCard will supplant PC Card entirely as more host systems and peripherals come to market. Particularly exciting is the prospect of ExpressCard slots and desktop machines for PCIe 1X applications, as it would alleviate the need to open a system's case to install new functionality. Synchrotech intends to carry the broadest possible range of ExpressCard technology.

The supply bottlenecks caused by Corona pandemic also have an impact on the semiconductor market. Friends of the single -board computer Raspberry Pi are currently feeling. The prices have noticed noticeably if the prospect gets a device at all. An alternative is the Orange Pi 4 LTS by Shenzhen Xunlong Software, which is expected to be available from February 14th. The price at Amazon and AliExpress should be between $ 55 and $ 70. If you are interested in this, you can quickly access it. Here, too, there is the possibility that fewer quantities will be delivered and that they will soon be out of print. Orange PI 4 LTS supports Android, Ubuntu and Debian as an operating system. The computer has a rock chip RK3399 with six cores. The RAM is 4 GB LPDDR4-RAM. The computer uses a 16 GB EMMC flash card as a storage medium. Even a WLAN and Bluetooth connection are available. There is little to criticize the connection options. There is an HDMI connection for the monitor. There is also a USB 3.0 port and a USB 3.0 Type-C connection. There is also a USB 2.0 connection and another USB port that was soldered directly onto the board. On the back of the computer there is a micro SD card reader, a reset and recovery button. The previous version has been around since January 2019. Depending on the equipment, the price is between $ 30 and $ 40.

For Mac owners, the miniStack MAX solves one problem that Apple never addressed (by adding a Blu-ray drive) and another that they created (by eliminating optical drives entirely on newer Mac models). For PC owners, the product offers external drive, optical drive, and SD card support to any computer in one compact package.

Needed to add a USB-C connection to desktop computer so added an internal multi-card reader with USB-C connection. This card required a USB 3.0 19-pin connection on motherboard which is being used by the desktop case. I added this card to plug in the new multi-card reader. All works flawlessly. The Fedora Linux OS recognized the card with no issues.

The past year we have been covering the development of the VC5 open-source Linux graphics driver stack for Broadcom's unreleased "VideoCore V" GPU, succeeding the VideoCore IV GPU most notably found on Raspberry Pi boards. Disappointing readers though has been the lack of availability for VC5 hardware, but that's beginning to change.

One of the limitations in selecting assistive technology products for people who are visually impaired has long been the difficulty in examining products. You cannot go to a local computer superstore and look at screen- magnification products, screen readers, or refreshable braille displays. Of course, that's why you read AccessWorld. But there's no substitute for actually seeing, hearing, or touching a product before you buy it.

CSUN organizers have done a remarkable job of covering all the bases in terms of accessibility. There are interpreters, listening devices, and captioning for people who are deaf or hard of hearing; accessibility for mobility impaired participants in both hotels; and wheelchair- equipped, lift-equipped shuttles running between hotels. For people who are visually impaired, all the program materials are provided in the media of choice. The braille was particularly impressive. Each day of the program schedule is provided in a separately bound volume, and considerable care has been taken to use headings, page breaks, and other formatting considerations in ways that facilitate the rapid location of needed information. Braille readers were also provided with a booklet of tactile maps, including one of each hotel and of all the major meeting areas within each hotel.

Bob Regan, product manager for accessibility at Macromedia, described the company's efforts to make Flash accessible. Flash is an application that allows you to view animation and interactive multimedia presentations with your browser. Macromedia's web site claims that "Independent surveys show that over 98.3% of web users already have Macromedia Flash Player installed." Flash has previously been totally inaccessible. Macromedia has used Microsoft Active Accessibility to make information about text buttons and movie clips available to GW Micro's screen reader Window-Eyes. As a result, it is possible, using one screen reader, to tab through a Flash presentation and identify and select buttons to hear information about the presentation. A lot more work is needed before all screen-reader users will be able to get anywhere near as much information from a Flash animation as a sighted person gets, though.

After several meetings in 2001 and 2002, the task force completed its preliminary list of competencies and measurement protocols. It has also begun asking vendors to develop standards of their own to ensure that when they train AT specialists in how to use and give instruction in their products, there is clear evidence that the AT specialists have mastered the skills required. Examples include writing configuration files for a screen reader, teaching effective use of portable note takers; properly installing, configuring, and teaching the use of braille displays; and assessing a consumer's efficiency in using screen-magnification software and all its features. Thus, the task force has begun systematically surveying vendors to develop a comprehensive list of vendor training courses, material covered, and criteria for awarding certificates of completion.

Recognizing the value of obtaining high-quality instruction, more AT specialists will seek opportunities to develop their portfolios. Accumulating well-earned certificates and other documents to display their qualifications will improve their prospects and increase their stature among the mainstream information-technology community. AT specialists will then be able to command greater compensation for their work. Shortages will abate. 2ff7e9595c
